No. 4 Seed: Juan Soto, Nationals: 19 Final Homer (Champ)
As the high seed, Soto had to sit back and Rodriguez set the mark to beat with 18 homers, which Jose Ramírez posted against him in the first round. Soto started slow again, not hitting a homer for 45 seconds, but then found another level with 10 homers in the span of 12 swings before taking his timeout. He returned still hot and crushed 15 by the end of regulation. Soto quickly got the four he needed to lift the crown, tossing his bat after winning the 2022 T-Mobile home run derby. At 23 years, 266 days old, Soto won just one day less than tying Juan González as the youngest winner in Derby history.

Juan Soto, one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball, resumed his already long run on Monday night. The 23-year-old national star won the 2022 MLB home run derby by defeating Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez in the final. This is the first Derby title for Soto, which has been the subject of trade rumors in recent days.

Rodriguez had an outside party before running into Soto in the final. He ended Pete Alonso’s search for a three-point finish in the second round. Alonso won the competition in 2019 and 2021 (there was no home run derby in 2020) and wanted to be the first player to win three consecutive derbys. Alonso, however, could not match Rodriguez’s 31 homers.
