Eric Steven Weddell (born January 4, 1985) is an American football free safety for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football in Utah, where he was a unanimous All-American. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Wedel also played for the Baltimore Ravens from 2016 to 2018 and for the Los Angeles Rams in 2019. He has been named to the Pro Bowl six times, and has been honored as an All-Pro five times.

The Baltimore Ravens signed Eric Weidl as security during the 2016 off-season to a four-year, $26 million contract extension. The veteran would fight right with the team, playing for three seasons in Baltimore and ending his time as a Raven with 220 total tackles, 10 interceptions, three force fumbles and three sacks.

Wedel was let go by Baltimore after the third year of his four-year deal, and signed with the Los Angeles Rams, where he played the 2019 season. Safety Eric Weddle has come out of retirement and signed with the Los Angeles Rams for the playoffs following a season-ending injury to Jordan Fuller.

Wedel’s return to the Rams was announced by his agent David Kantor on Wednesday. The Rams later announced that they had signed Weddle to their practice squad.

Rams’ defensive signal-caller Fuller suffered an ankle injury that would require season-ending surgery in Los Angeles’ overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Fuller was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday.

Ram is also dealing with two other major injuries in his secondary. Safety Taylor Rapp, who scored his fourth interception of the season against the 49ers, entered concussion protocol and cornerback Darius Williams suffered a shoulder injury early in the game.

In addition to Waddell, the Rams also signed defensive backs Blake Countess and Sharrod Nesman to their practice squad and Jake Gervais to their active roster.

The NFC West-champion Rams host the Arizona Cardinals in a wild-card round playoff game Monday night (ESPN, 8:15 p.m. ET).

Played six-time Pro Bowl selections for the San Diego Chargers (2007–2015) and Baltimore Ravens (2016–18); He was named a first team All-Pro in 2011 and 2014. Wedel spent the last season of his 13-year career with the Rams in 2019, when he started all 16 games.

Rams safety Jordan Fuller is out for the season with an ankle injury, and Taylor is in wrap concussion protocol. Wedel ended his career with 29 interceptions, eight forced fumbles (seven recoveries) and 98 pass breakups.
