Eric Kendricks: Highlights| Contract| PFF

Eric Kendricks will go to a different NFC contender in NFL free agency.

After originally agreeing to a deal with the San Francisco 49ers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that he had a “change of heart” and was signing with the Dallas Cowboys instead.

Kendricks joined the Mike Zimmer-led defense in Dallas. He played particularly well under Zimmer when he was with the Minnesota Vikings. He is the Cowboys’ first free-agent signing this offseason.

Kendricks is a nine-year veteran with a Pro Bowl nod and an All-Pro designation. He has recorded 1,036 tackles, 18.5 sacks and 36 quarterback hits. He had 117 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and seven quarterback hits in his lone season with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023.

He joins a Dallas defense that is not lacking in talent. He will work with stars like Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs to help the unit finish fifth in the NFL in 2023.

Dallas went 12–5 in 2023 and won the NFC East. This helped him clinch the No. 2 seed, but the Cowboys were eliminated by the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round.

Contract

Eric Kendricks signed a 2-year, $13,250,000 contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, which includes a $5,500,000 signing bonus, $6,750,000 guaranteed and an average annual salary of $6,625,000.

PFF

The Los Angeles Chargers have had an active start to the 2023 offseason, with the front office making significant moves to improve the team through the NFL Draft and free agency. One of their notable acquisitions was All-Pro linebacker Eric Kendricks. Kendricks signed a two-year deal, making him the newest member of the Chargers, and his presence is expected to strengthen the defense.

Since entering the league in 2014, Kendricks has established himself as one of the most consistent linebackers in the game. His joining the Chargers is expected to have a positive impact on the team’s performance. Pro Football Focus (PFF) recognized Kendricks’ abilities and ranked him 12th on their list of the top 32 linebackers heading into the 2023 season, placing him in Tier 3 according to PFF’s classification.
