Andrey Rublev Reveals What He Did Wrong With Novak Djokovic’s Loss In ATP Finals
World No. 5 Andrey Rublev admitted that he was rushing against Novak Djokovic and thinking too much and that’s why he went nowhere against the Serb. World No. 1 Djokovic lost just five games along the way. 6-3, 6-2 win over Rublev.
Rublev broke Djokovic in the opening game of the match but the Serb responded with two breaks to win the opener. Djokovic also broke Rublev twice in the second set and won in straight sets. “I have to pass on this experience.
I’ve been through it when I was playing my first meeting against Rafa, against Andy, and it always takes time. To feel that you can compete with the best players, you need to play some kind of matches. It takes time,” Rublev said after the loss, per Tennis Now..
“I was in a bit of a hurry, thinking a little too much, because every time I was thinking, OK, now I have a chance to attack, now I have a chance to lead the point, and you’re going to be in the next two, three. You start thinking for the shots, and in the end you don’t even make it.”

Medvedev and Rudd will clash to decide who will reach the Turin final
The rivalry that defined the 2021 hard-court season is once again taking center stage in the climactic round of the Nieto ATP Finals.
Novak Djokovic faced Alexander Zverev in the closing stages of the Australian Open, the Tokyo Olympics and the US Open – the two will now clash in Turin as the world No. 1 targets his eighth appearance in the final of the season-ending championships.
Should Djokovic reach that final, he could face Daniil Medvedev for the fourth time in 2021 after playing in the finals of the Australian Open, US Open and Rolex Paris Masters. That is, if Medvedev overcomes the challenge of Casper Rudd, the only one of the four semi-finalists who is not a former Nieto ATP Finals champion.
Djokovic will be aiming to avoid a repeat of last year’s tournament, when he was knocked out of the season finale at the semi-final stage. He could hardly proceed more cleanly through the group stage, beating Rudd 7-6(4), 6-2 and Andrey Rublev 6-3, 6-2 to win the Green Group. But Zverev should have a more difficult challenge. Djokovic leads ATP Head2Head 7-3, but his last four matches have gone straight-sets.
This will be their third encounter at the Nitto ATP Finals, where Zverev won the title in 2018 after beating Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 after losing to the Serb during the group stage. Djokovic defeated Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4) in the group stage in 2020.
“I am looking forward to it,” said Zverev. “When we play each other it is always interesting and close, so I am looking forward to another tough match…
