Former Clemson Tigers wide receiver Diondre Overton of Greensboro, North Carolina, has died at the age of 26, Clemson athletics officials said Saturday.
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said that around 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 7, deputies responded to a call about a loud party on Spring Mills Road in Overton’s hometown.
While traveling to the scene, deputies were informed that shots had been fired at the home.
Upon arrival, deputies found Overton suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officials said that, despite immediate medical assistance, Overton was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to local reports, the Guilford Co. (N.C.) Sheriff’s Office said ex-Clemson Tigers wide receiver Diondre Overton died in a shooting Saturday morning. He was 26 years old.
“Clemson football and the entire Clemson family mourn the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton,” the school said in a statement. “Our condolences are with his family and friends.”
According to reports, while going to respond to a call at a home around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, deputies said they were informed there had been a shooting at the home.
When they arrived, deputies found Overton suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered medical aid, but Overton was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests were made.
Diondre Overton was with Clemson in 2016 and 2018, after signing with the program as a member of the school’s 2016 football recruiting class.
His best season came as a senior, when Overton had 22 receptions for 352 yards and three touchdowns, posting 119 yards and 3 scores against Boston College.
The North Carolina native played in 51 games in his four seasons with the Clemson program, catching 52 passes for 777 yards and scoring seven touchdowns.
