As reported by NRL.com on 28 October, Klemmer confronted Bulldog officials with his wife, Chloe, at Canterbury after returning from international duty, demanding immediate release from his contract.

While the Dogs wanted to hold on to Claymer, they did not want to keep a player who did not want to stay at the club and were trying to secure a replacement before agreeing to release the 24-year-old international.

Klemmer was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and is of German descent.
He played his junior rugby league for the All Saints Tongabee Tigers, before being signed by the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. He also played Australian rules football and played for Sydney Swan Academy.
