Did sign with the raiders:
The Packers were willing to pay Adams as much or more than the Raiders are, according to a source, but he wanted to play with Derek Carr, who was his quarterback in college at Fresno State.
Last week, the Packers reportedly placed the franchise tag on Adams, which would have amounted to $20.1 million for the 2022 season. In late February, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst told reporters he doesn’t like to use the franchise tag and would prefer to give Adams a contract extension.
Highlights:
The Green Bay Packers traded star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, a source confirmed to The Athletic. Green Bay will receive Las Vegas’ 2022 first- and second-round NFL Draft picks (No. 22 and No. 53) in exchange for Adams, according to a source.
The trade comes shortly after quarterback Aaron Rodgers signed a new deal to remain in Green Bay. Rodgers knew the Adams trade was coming and still signed the deal, per a source.
Trade grade:
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders acquired Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for two “prime” 2022 NFL Draft picks, including a first-rounder.
As part of the trade, Adams will sign a five-year contract worth $141.25 million, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
In 2021, Adams recorded 123 receptions for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns. He will be the latest elite player to join the loaded AFC West, which now also contains new Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson.
