Fired
Darwin Hamm’s tenure as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers lasted only two seasons.
Los Angeles fired Hamm on Friday, the team announced in a statement:
According to Dan Woik of the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers also fired the entire assistant coaching staff. According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Phil Handy, who trained under Hamm and Frank Vogel in L.A., was among the assistants fired.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that the Lakers will have to conduct an “extensive” search for a new head coach and that Mike Budenholzer, Kenny Atkinson, JJ Redick and possibly Ty Lue would be candidates.
This isn’t surprising considering the noise surrounding the coach after the Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs in five games.
Charania, Jovan Buha and Sam Amick of The Athletic reported on the situation after the loss and said that it was “highly unlikely” that Ham would return after the “disgusting” postseason loss.
Net Worth
Darwin Hamm’s net worth is reported to be over $5 million dollars. Although Coach Ham has seen some decent growth in his net worth since becoming the coach, his previous career as a player plays a major role in it.
Wife
Darwin and Denitra Ham have been married for over 25 years. According to Heavy, Denitra is from Dallas, Texas and graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 2003.
Salary
According to The Athletic, he has signed a four-year deal worth $5 million per year and the team will reportedly “consider it.” The now former Lakers head coach’s contract was on the smaller scale of NBA coaches.
