Darrell Taylor: Injury| Seahawks| Highlights| Challenge

The Seahawks and Steelers took Sunday night’s game to the wire before coming to Pittsburgh with a 23-20 overtime win. With the score coming late into the fourth quarter, both sides with only a few minutes on the clock, Darrell Taylor stopped the encircling action. Second year pass Rusher, the 2020 Seattle second-round pick, was engaged as part of the Seahawks’ rotation but suffered a neck injury while attempting a tackle.

After lying motionless on the ground for a long period of time, Taylor caught the attention of trainers, his face mask was removed and eventually carried off the field on a stretcher, scheduled for evaluation at a local hospital.

After the game, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the team had “really good preliminary reports” on Taylor, who had movement in all extremities. Carroll said that Taylor did not want to leave the cart, but had to stay as a precaution.

A spokesman for the team said that Taylor would return to Seattle with the team.

Taylor was down near midfield for several minutes before he was immobilized on a stretcher, with his helmet still on and his facemask removed. Upon receiving medical help, both teams circled around Taylor.

“He was so mad to be off the field like this,” Carroll said. “He wanted to get up. They didn’t let him because they had to do all the safe ways to take care of him. He didn’t want any part of it.”

Taylor was taken by ambulance to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Former Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier, who suffered a serious spinal injury during a game that initially left him unable to walk and which ended his career, tweeted that he was praying for Taylor.

Highlights

The Seahawks lost Sunday’s game in overtime, but there was still good news to come out of the night as an update Pete Carroll was provided on injured defensive end Darrell Taylor.

Taylor was on the field for several minutes in the fourth quarter and eventually had to be pulled from a stretcher, but he had full arm movement and Carroll said initial tests were very positive.

“The CT scans were clear, so this is a really good preliminary report,” Carroll said. “There are some more tests to be done and things like that, so we’re thrilled with that news.”

Taylor was also cleared to go home with the team after the game, another encouraging sign, and Carroll said that if Taylor had been up, he would not have left the field the way he did.

“He was so mad about being kicked off the field like this,” Carroll said. “He wanted to get up, they didn’t let him, because they had to do all the safe ways to take care of him and all that. But man, he didn’t want any part of that.”

Challenge

Over the years, the Challenge has become a sport. This is certainly the case if you ask some of those who have lived multiple times – and there are quite a few.

“We’re literally hanging from the tanks, the explosions away from us. I mean, the amount of danger and just the craziness that accompanies challenges,” six-time winner Johnny “Banana” Devenzio tells us. “They really raised the level of insanity and danger in Season 35. It’s not just our living conditions, but the challenges. What do you guys think next?”

Since its launch in 1998, the show has been constantly changing – from formats to hosts, to competitors. However, there are some stars who can’t stop winning. For example, Johnny joined the series in 2006 on The Duel. He has competed in 20 seasons and still holds the title of most wins, his latest being Total Madness of 2021.

Mike “The Miz” Mizanin, one of the most successful people to come out of the show, returns to host the reunion still—and is still grateful.

“I love that show. And I always feel like MTV gave me my start. And so I will always come back to MTV and always do what they need to do, because that’s what they gave me,” Real The World alum says. “He gave me my start. He assured me that I needed to be a WWE Superstar and take me to where I am today. That’s why I like the show. Every time it’s on, it’s everyone’s guilty pleasure.”

At the start of the show, the format was almost always teams and sometimes a challenge could have up to nine winners. Over the years, the game changed and the winning teams got smaller and smaller.

So, who has won more than one Challenge in his time? There have been multiple winners at various times, some of whom are still competing today. Scroll through the gallery below to see where they are now.
