Stroud spent his original freshman year at Ohio State as a backup for Justin Fields. He did not attempt any passes, but did make a quick 48-yard touchdown.

Stroud was named the starting quarterback as a redshirt-freshman following Fields’ departure in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was picked over new player Kyle McCord and fellow redshirt-freshman Jack Miller III. Coach Ryan Day credits his decision-making, leadership skills and accuracy as earning the starting spot. [13]

Stroud started all his regular season games except one against Akron, so that he could rest from a shoulder injury in the first season of the season. [14] During the season, he earned First Team All-Big Ten Honors, won the Big Ten Freshman of the Week six times, was a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, and was the only quarterback in Ohio State history. Five touchdowns against him. The Big Ten contested four times in a single season. [15] He led the team to a 10–2 record in the regular season, losing to Michigan in their final game. However, he and Ohio State bounced back from this disappointment at the Rose Bowl, coming back from a 14-point deficit against Utah to win 48–45 in a thriller. Stroud threw for a school and Rose Bowl record for 573 yards in the win, and also set a school record and Rose Bowl record with 6 touchdown passes.

The three “biggest brands” in college football right now are Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson. 2021 is quite a unique year for these programs because they are so strong, and they have every reason to think they will be competing for the national championships, but each is breaking into a new quarterback.

There is a lot of pressure with playing quarterback for one of those three programs.

I think CJ Stroud has a huge opportunity in front of him. What more could a new starting quarterback want to have such an experienced, talented group around him? Stroud doesn’t have to be Justin Fields. He doesn’t need to throw 50 touchdowns like Dwayne Haskins. Just go out there and take care of the ball, and let the incredibly skilled group around you do their job. The stats will take care of themselves.

Parents

CJ Stroud’s only parent is his mother, Kimberly Stroud, as of now.

His father’s name has not been revealed yet. The footballer’s father is being told in jail.

In an interview, he said that he was only in middle school when his father was taken to prison.

However, he attributes his love for football to his father. It was his father who introduced him to the sport.

The NFL star has three siblings named Isaiah, Asmar, and Ciara.

Stroud often shares memories of his family on Instagram. His verified profile has more than 59 thousand followers so far.

From their bio we can say that the family is very religious.

News

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day made an important announcement this Thursday that includes starting quarterback CJ Stroud.

Day revealed that Stroud is battling a shoulder injury and will only play an emergency role against Akron this Saturday. The redshirt freshman is resting on his injury during practice this week.

Since the Buckeyes don’t plan to use Stroud this weekend, Day will either reintroduce freshman Jack Miller or true freshman Kyle McCord.
