The foundation has been laid. Casper Roode is on the verge of taking his first ATP crown and has taken the necessary steps to bring him on the verge of his maiden title in the first four months of the season. The player from Movistar’s Rafa Nadal Academy fought it out in the Houston final on Sunday, but he will have to wait a bit longer before his cabinet receives the first trophy.

The result takes nothing away from a stellar week in which he continued the form that saw him make an excellent start to the season. When he reached the quarterfinals in Rio de Janeiro, where he also had to make it through qualifying, he began to see the fruits of a good preseason. Soon after, he played in the semi-finals in So Paulo. And most recently in Houston, he competed in the first ATP Finals of his youth career, although he was unable to defeat Chilean Christian Garin in the title match.
