Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz on Thursday became the youngest man in 29 years to reach the third round of the French Open with an impressive straight-sets win over 28th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili.

The world number 97, who turned only 18 last month, is the youngest ever since Andrei Medvedev in 1992.

Alkaraz achieved this feat in a spectacular fashion by defeating Basilashvili of Georgia 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.

He will next face 42nd-ranked German Jan-Lenard Struff, who beat Facundo Bagnis 7-5, 7-6 (7/1), 6-4 to extend his run in the second week.
