When was drafted
The 2011 NFL Draft was the 76th installment of the annual NFL Draft, where National Football League franchises select newly eligible football players. Like the 2010 draft, the 2011 draft was held over three days at Radio City Music Hall in New York City: this year, the first round took place on Thursday, April 28, 2011; The second and third rounds took place on Friday, 29 April; with the Final Four round on Saturday, April 30, 2011. The Carolina Panthers, who had a worst record of 2–14 in the 2010 NFL season, had the right to have the first selection in the draft, where they selected Auburn University quarterback Cam Newton, the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner. The 2011 draft is considered one of the most talented draft classes in NFL history, as 12 of the first 16 players have been selected to at least one Pro Bowl.
Auburn
Bo Nix and Cam Newton are two quarterbacks who made huge strides during their time at Auburn. Both quarterbacks arrived at the program in very different scenarios and made names for themselves before ultimately leaving.
While Nix was the starting quarterback for Auburn after Newton’s tenure, he did not take over from the former Carolina Panthers signal-caller. Nix and Newton played for Auburn in very different eras and between them were a good number of starting quarterbacks for the Tigers.
Cam Newton arrived at Auburn in 2010 after spending time at Florida and Blinn College. The quarterback joined the program as a polarizing figure, being involved in some controversies. However, he led the Tigers to the BCS National Championship in 2010.
Bo Nix, on the other hand, committed to Auburn in 2019 to continue his family’s legacy in the program. His father, Patrick Nix, was the starting quarterback for the Tigers from 1994 to 1995. Bo played three seasons in the program before transferring to Oregon.
College
Cam Newton’s college career began at Florida, where he played two seasons before going to Blinn College and then Auburn. He chose Auburn over Mississippi State and Oklahoma.
