Calvin Katar made a triumphant return to the Octagon from inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada on ESPN/ESPN at UFC Vegas 46 last night (Saturday, January 15, 2022) after featherweight legend stopped mounting contender Giga Chikadze. One-sided main event beatdown.

Chikadze was kicking a ton on the legs before an exchange slammed him onto the canvas. Katar took advantage and dived to secure the takedown. From there, Katar worked hard at the top to hit some good punches, tire Chikadze, and gain some valuable control time.

Both featherweights were torn for the offense in the second round as Katar pressed Chikadze around the cage and forced the dirty boxing inside. It seemed that the skewer’s tenacity was weighing on Chikadze, but the “ninja” responded with hard punches. Dagger came back with some spinning elbows and did another takedown to end the round.

Katar kept things in third place with more pressure. Chikadze had to fight back up and really start getting tagged. Bloody and exhausted, Chikadze fired back to keep the dagger in line, but the fight was slowly going away. Chikadze’s face got worse in the fourth as the dagger landed higher inside the elbow than any other strike. He had Chikadze and a few moments left in the round, but the “ninja” survived.

After a year of inactivity and the worst loss of his career, Calvin Katar proved that he is still a key player in the UFC’s featherweight division.

Hardcore (23-5) on Saturday became the first man inside the UFC octagon to lose to Giga Chikadze (14-3) as he dominated the Georgian contender during a five-round unanimous decision. The three judges sweep for the dagger with scores of 50-44, 50-45 and 50-45.

The 145-pound scrap inside the apex headlined UFC Fight Night.

Nearly a year after the victory, the 33-year-old Katar absorbed 445 total strikes in a devastating defeat to former champion Max Holloway.

“I feel great,” said Katar. “He’s a tough fighter, 7-0 in UFC. They all count me in this fight. Like I’m saying, everyone counts me no matter what. As long as you believe in yourself, it’s all It matters. “

Going into the weekend, Chikadze looked like a serious title threat. A karate black belt, he won seven in a row, including finishes over Cub Swanson and Edson Barboza. The dagger neutralized his offense by keeping Chikadze on his hind leg throughout the fight. He filled the Chikadze with footwork and a crisp jab. With no place to work, Chikadze struggles to implement the deadly kicking game he is known for.

By the third round, Chikadze had cut his right eye and nose. He still had his moments from time to time, defending almost every attempt at Dagger’s attempts to get him to the floor, but the pressure took an obvious toll on his efficiency and gas tank. The dagger slammed him to the ground in the final seconds of the fight.

The dagger improves to 7-3 in the UFC. He went on as more than the underdog of a 2-to-1 betting on Saturday. Chikadze, who fought Kings MMA in California, suffered a loss for the first time since June 2018.
