Byron Kerrion Buxton (born December 18, 1993) is an American professional baseball center fielder for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was the second highest rated prospect in baseball in 2015 according to MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus.

Apparent injury

Buxton was hurt on a last-second slide into second base after the Red Sox mishandled his pop fly into shallow left field to lead the game.

“Obviously, he was feeling some real discomfort,” Baldelli said. “He plays a lot. He’s a tough guy and he’s always wanted to be on the field. I think in this instance, he knew it was something he wouldn’t be able to play with today.”

Speaking after Minnesota’s 8-4 win, Baldelli said he would not make any moves on the roster until the MRI results came back to the team.

Knee

Baldelli said the twins are not expected to step up the roster, a sign that Buxton may be able to return in short order.

Buxton pulled off an 8-4 win over Boston on Friday night in the first inning of Minnesota’s series, largely slipping into second base. His left leg got stuck under him, while his right leg got stuck in the bag.

The 28-year-old has been one of the best players in the game in recent years when it comes to recovery. Unfortunately for the twins, this rarely happened. He batted .306 in 2021 with 19 home runs in 61 games, but was limited by a broken arm and a right hip strain.

Buxton signed a $100 million, seven-year deal over the winter to stay with the twins longer. With three homers in seven games, he was on course to make another powerful start to the season.
