Bubba Wallace made history on Monday, becoming just the second black driver to win NASCAR’s Cup Series race, the association’s top series.

Wallace is the first black man to win a Cup Series since 1963, when NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Wendell Scott led the race.

Michael Jeffrey Jordan (born February 17, 1963), also known by his initials MJ,  is an American former professional basketball player and businessman. He is the principal owner and president of the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and 23XI Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. Wallace was previously a development driver in Toyota’s driver development program, where he worked part-time for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and full-time for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Truck Series. He then moved on to Ford and their driver development program and competed full-time for Roush Fenway Racing in the Xfinity Series. After competing in select Cup Series races as an injury replacement for Eric Almirola in his famous No. 43 for Richard Petty Motorsports, Wallace became a full-time driver for RPM in the same car when Almirola left the team, which His first full-time riding in the Cup Series.

Wallace has been the only full-time African American driver in NASCAR’s three national series (Cup, Xfinity, and Truck), in which he has competed each year. He is the only African American driver to win any of these series more than once, making him one of the most successful African American drivers in NASCAR history. Also, in June 2020, Wallace became known for his activism on racial justice in response to the killing of George Floyd and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests, which led NASCAR to strengthen its actions and efforts in this area, through The ban was highlighted.
