In the national quarterback camps he attended as a preteen, Young was usually the youngest participant. The oversized T-shirts that were given to each tourist often hung down to his knees. Due to Young’s modest stature, camp organizers often assumed that he could not throw as well as his taller, stronger teammates. They would place him in the secondary “B” group of quarterbacks instead of inviting him to compete against the top level of the camp.

Bryce’s father, Craig Young, told Yahoo Sports, “He has to light up that group and then inevitably a counselor will say, ‘You don’t belong here. “It was always fun to watch. In every camp, it rang like clockwork.”
Even after Bryce Young began his high school career as a decorated senior quarterback by eliminating playing time, college coaches didn’t immediately line up outside his front door to offer scholarships. Many chose to play slow to see how the new 5-foot-9 high school player would develop and whether he would grow tall.
Only a few years later, no one is asking if Young is big enough. Not after producing perhaps the greatest season by any quarterback in Alabama football history.
