A major featherweight match featuring Edson Barboza will take on Bryce Mitchell at the UFC 272 main card from Las Vegas tonight.

Barboza (22-11 MMA) will return to action for the first time since losing TKO to Giga Chikadze back in August. That setback broke a two-fight winning streak for Brazil, who had previously defeated Makwan Amirkhani and Shane Burgos.

Meanwhile, Bryce Mitchell (15-0 MMA) would play a perfect professional record at UFC 272 with 14 wins and no losses. ‘Thugs Dirty’ last competed in October of 2020, where he won by unanimous decision over Andre Fili.

The first round of the men’s featherweight match begins with Bryce Mitchell kicking Barboza. Brazil bounced back with a heavy low kick. Another low kick lands for Edson Barboza. Michelle replies with a side kick to the body. Barboza just misses with a big right. Mitchell with a low kick. He wants to win but Barboza breaks free. Bryce lands a big right hand and Edson is down. He gets back on his feet but Michelle is on top of him. He gets a double leg takedown and starts working full guard. He punches Michelle in the head and body. There are two minutes and forty-five seconds left in the opening round. Bryce Mitchell takes a seat and hits a big shot. The Las Vegas crowd begins to chant “USA, USA”. A pair of good right hands descends for Mitchell. Ninety seconds left. Ground and pound over Bryce. Edson fires back in the face with a back fist. He scrambles up and gets back on his feet. Barboza with a good shot to the body of Michelle. He starts moving and just misses the spinning back kick. He lands a follow up right hand and then leaps off with a flying knee that misses. The horn starts to sound at the end of the first round.

Bryce Mitchell has vowed to donate half of his fight purse from UFC 272 which is $45,000. The Arkansas lad revealed that the amount would go to Arkansas children with medical conditions. Mitchell told Joe Rogan in his post-fight interview at UFC 272:

“For ten years you must have patted me on my back and I’ve done nothing for you. I’m gonna show you all, I’m no good at hurting people, I can help people. Half my purse, $45,000, Going to Arkansas kids with medical conditions who have no hope. We will be their hope. In the name of God, these kids will be fine.”

Mitchell coached Edson Barboza well on his way to a major unanimous decision victory at UFC 272. ‘Thug Dirty’ goes undefeated in fifteen professional outings and can be expected to break into the top ten in the UFC featherweight rankings.

Michelle was born in Cabot, Arkansas and attended Cabot High School. He played basketball for the university team and also represented the school in wrestling. He later moved to Cersei, Arkansas, and attended Harding University. An Arkansas lad, he now lives in Sherwood.
