For 33 years Bruce Schwagler was a top-rated broadcast meteorologist and science reporter at WBZ-TV. He was part of the long-running eyewitness news team along with anchors Jack Williams and Liz Walker and sportscaster Bob Lobel. That entire team is in the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, Bruce respected his ability to simplify and teach complex technical issues to broadcast viewers and others. He won New England’s first Emmy Award for Outstanding Meteorologist and is the recipient of several honors, including recognition for a prime-time global warming television special and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) National Outstanding Broadcast Meteorologist Award.

Bruce’s first book was called Weather and Energy and he won awards for being an expert in energy education. He also wrote for print media and was an environmental columnist for United Press International for three years. He also worked for the Associated Press, and his column Weatherwise and Others became popular around the world.
He helped build the school science curriculum at Boston University and was a member of the AMS Board of School and Popular Meteorology and Oceanography Education. He was named a member of the Board of Overseers at Boston’s Science Museum for six years and presented several environmental programs at Harvard University, along with elementary and middle schools.

“I did this for five days in a row,” he recalled in 2018, according to the station. “Others couldn’t get in.”
According to his profile in the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Schwoegler was part of the eyewitness news team along with anchors Jack Williams and Liz Walker.
