Why did fail his physical:

Bol, 22, has shown flashes of promise with Denver, but never found traction in a deep and talented Nuggets frontcourt. Detroit would have given Bol an opportunity to get more consistent minutes as it continues to gather young talent as part of its rebuild.

Bol will be a restricted free agent this summer. The 7-foot-2 Bol was considered a top-10 draft prospect prior to the 2018-19 season at Oregon, but dropped to 44th overall on draft night in 2019 and has averaged only 5.8 minutes in 14 games for Denver this season. Bol has shown flashes of offensive skill in his time with the Nuggets.

Did fail his physical:

Mike Singer of the Denver Post reported on Thursday that the trade that would have sent Bol from the Denver Nuggets to the Detroit Pistons has been voided due to a failed physical. Details about why Bol failed his physical are not known.

There’s only one major injury in Bol’s past that the public is aware of. He needed surgery after he fractured his left foot during his freshman year at Oregon. He missed all but nine games and then declared for the 2019 draft. He hasn’t had any injury trouble in his three seasons with the Nuggets.

There were major questions about Bol’s durability entering the 2019 draft. As Michael Porter Jr. just showed, underlying issues that worry teams in the draft can still rear their heads years later – even after the player has been healthy and productive.

This is a major blow to Bol as he approaches (potentially restricted) free agency this summer. Teams are now more likely to see him as damaged goods. As if it weren’t already bad enough that the team that knows him best just agreed to trade him for a low second-round pick.

Denver also suffers with Bol getting deemed physically flawed then returned. But Bol’s trade value was pretty low to begin with.
