Surgery:
The first in-season trade by Brad Stevens as Celtics president of basketball operations was a bit of a puzzling one at first glance. Boston traded for a pair of players in PJ Dozier and Bol Bol that won’t see an NBA court for the foreseeable future.
Dozier, 25, tore his ACL in late November, ending his season after just 18 games. Meanwhile, Bol underwent foot surgery this week that will sideline him for the next 8-12 weeks.
Height:
2.18 m
That puts the 22-year-old on a timeline to return to action right as Boston is gearing up for the postseason, not exactly the best time to get a close look at a young player who is set to become a free agent this offseason.

Juancho Hernangomez is earning $7 million this season and the final year of his contract next year in unguaranteed, which essentially makes him an expiring contract. With the power forward out of Boston’s rotation all year long, dumping his deal for two players that earned a combined $4 million nets Boston $3 million in savings for the present.

If the Celtics desire, they could also open up a new TPE worth $7 million with this trade by taking the salaries of Dozier and Bol into their current trade exceptions.
NBA Deal:
The Denver Nuggets have agreed to acquire veteran wing player Bryn Forbes from San Antonio as part of a three-team deal that also includes Boston, a person with direct knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press.
The Nuggets are trading injured players Bol and P.J. Dozier to Boston, and the Celtics are sending Juancho Hernangomez to San Antonio, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the deal has not been finalized and approved by the NBA. The deal was first reported by ESPN.
3way Deal:
The Spurs also will receive a future second-round draft pick from the Nuggets, the person said.
The Celtics get flexibility, but the players are essentially with the team on paper only. Bol was sent to Detroit on Jan. 9 as part of a trade package that was rescinded when the 7-foot-2 forward didn’t receive medical clearance with the Pistons.
Denver announced Tuesday that Bol underwent right foot surgery and was out indefinitely. Dozier also is out after tearing the ACL in his left knee earlier this season.
