Bobby Wagner: Signing| Highlights| Tackles| Deal

The Washington Commanders continue to field the NFL’s worst statistical defense, adding eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker Bobby Wagner on Wednesday, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Wagner becomes the sixth defensive player Washington has landed Monday, hoping to bolster a group that ranked last in both points and yards last season.

According to NFL Network, which first reported the news, Wagner agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $8.5 million with $6 million guaranteed.

Washington also added three defensive ends – Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler Jr. and Clelin Ferrell – as well as linebacker Frankie Luvu and safety Jeremy Chinn.

Highlights

After a season away from the Emerald City, linebacker Bobby Wagner returned to the Seattle Seahawks for the 2023 campaign. The nine-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro added one more in each category last season as he dominated the middle of the defense.

The Seahawks’ defense last year wasn’t very good by any stretch of the imagination, but that was hardly due to Bobby Wagner’s efforts. At age 33, Wagner was back to his normal self. He once again led the league in tackles with 183 – also the best mark of his career.

Deal

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport quotes a source as saying that the veteran linebacker is signing a one-year deal worth up to $8.5 million with the Commanders. Rapoport says Wagner’s contract includes $6 million guaranteed.

Wagner’s move east marks a notable change in his career plans, and reunites him with his former defensive coordinator in Seattle, head coach Dan Quinn. The longtime Seahawks headed south to his hometown of Los Angeles for a one-year stint with the defending Super Bowl champions, but as the wheels came off those runs for the Rams, it became clear that Wagner wasn’t sticking around. Would like, due to which he had to leave again. -Sign with Seattle in 2023.
