William Stephen Belichick (born April 16, 1952) is an American football coach who is the head coach and general manager of the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). Widely considered one of the greatest head coaches of all time, he holds numerous coaching records, including most Super Bowl wins with the Patriots as a head coach (six). Records are also included. For a record eight Super Bowl wins overall as a coach and coordinator, with two more during his time as defensive coordinator of the New York Giants. Belichick is often referred to as a “student of the game”, with a deep knowledge of the intricacies of each player’s position, and is known as a renowned American football historian. During his tenure with the Patriots, he was a central figure as head coach as well as chief executive during the franchise’s dynasty from 2001 to 2019.

Including the playoffs, Belichick has now reached 331 wins, as he continues to chase Shula’s record of 347. Of the 300, 264 have come with the Patriots. The other 44 wins came during Belichick’s tenure with the Cleveland Browns from 1991–95.

When Shula was asked about his thoughts on Belichick, he told Bleacher Report, “I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about him.”
Shula is not a Belichick fan. Never has been, never will be. So, there he is.
Still, what Belichick did is monumental. He now needs just one more win to tie Tom Landry as the all-time playoff leader. There is no doubt that Belichick will become the all-time postseason leader by the time his career is over.
Yes, it was done, but the point is: What Shula and Landry did was even more impressive. Much more than that.
This isn’t even my Shula bias. I wrote a book on the undefeated Miami Dolphins and consider that accomplishment the greatest in the history of team sports. Still, I would feel the same way regardless. Shula’s 19 postseason wins are better than Belichick’s due to pure and simple numbers.
“When I was coaching, only two or four teams from each conference made the playoffs,” Shula said.

Belichick, 71, became the third head coach in NFL history to reach 300 regular season wins, joining “Papa Bear” George Halas (318 wins) and all-time leader Don Shula (328). During five seasons leading the Browns from 1991–95, Belichick went 36–44. From 2000 to present, Belichick is 264–111 with the Patriots.
