Beneil Dariush was born and raised on a farm near Urmia in Iran to Assyrian Christian parents. When he was nine, he and his parents left Iran and moved to America, where his large family already had many relatives. At the time, Beneil and his sister Berile did not speak English, so they spent most of their time playing with their cousins.

Dariush is a devout Christian, often noting his religious affiliation during UFC media events, promotional work, and post-fight interviews. In keeping with this belief, he sponsors an orphanage and Christian school in Haiti known as the Cap-Haitian Children’s Home.

Sherdog

Beneil Dariush (22-5) is expected to face rising contender Arman Tsarukyan (20-3) in the main event of UFC on ESPN 52 on Saturday in Austin, Texas. “Benny” claims that Poirier’s name was also mentioned as an alternative opponent, but the booking never came to fruition. Dariush recently told Submission Radio:

“They called me up for it and said, ‘Hey, would you be interested?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, sure. I’m at a good weight, I’m obviously in camp right now, I can fight Dustin Poirier.’ And they said, ‘Okay, we’ll get back to you.’ That didn’t happen and then they called me again. And they said, ‘Okay, what about Dustin Poirier for December 2nd?’ I said, ‘Okay.’ Then I just kept waiting and things didn’t work out.

“Later they said they would continue with Armaan and there would be five rounds. I never listen to the other side. I’m not really sure what happened to Dustin. I would love to hear what he says about this, but no one has asked him in an interview or anything like that or he hasn’t mentioned it.

Next Fight

Beneil Dariush will meet Arman Zarukyan for his next bout at UFC Fight Night: Dariush vs. Zarukyan held at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, United States.

Beneil Dariush’s last outing was against Charles ‘Du Bronx’ Oliveira at UFC 289. The first round saw a flurry of blows between the two fighters, with Dariush opening with a low kick, which was countered by an impressive head kick from Oliveira. Despite a momentary miss from Dariush, he quickly recovered and engaged in the clinch, eventually dropping Oliveira to the canvas.

Oliveira displayed courage, avoiding a leglock attempt and gaining dominance on top. As the fighters returned to their feet, Oliveira landed a devastating kick to the head, which clearly had an impact on Dariush. In a sustained attack, Oliveira overwhelmed Dariush, leading to referee intervention at 4:10 of the first round to declare Charles Oliveira the winner via TKO with punches.
