On game days, the Maple Leafs’ younger players finally had their way with a more relaxed dress code, closer to business casual. This allows them to avoid the sport’s severe, but often required — even in minor hockey — jacket-and-tie policy.

“We’ve tried to keep it professional, but we’ve also tried to provide a little more freedom and relax a little.” And I believe it went nicely. Captain John Tavares, 31, said, “So far, men have been incredibly responsive.”

The Maple Leafs’ season continues Monday night, with star player Auston Matthews returning to the lineup.

“I’m really excited,” Matthews remarked on Sunday. “It’s not much pleasure to see, but it appears that the boys are having a good time out there. As a result, I’ve been dying to return.”

Coming Back

The Toronto Maple Leafs forward is now ready to return to the lineup after undergoing wrist surgery over two months ago, and will make his season debut against the New York Rangers on Monday.

“I’m pumped,” Matthews said after practise on Sunday. “It hasn’t been a lot of fun watching.” “It’s been wonderful to be patient and take my time to make sure I’m completely confident, and I absolutely am.”
