He was an important member of two World Cup winning teams. Symonds played as a right-handed, middle-order batsman and alternated between bowling medium pace and off-spin. He was also notable for his exceptional fielding skills.

Former Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds died on Sunday following a car accident on the outskirts of the town of Townsville. He was 46 and is survived by wife Laura and two young children, Chloe and Billy. Symonds, one of the greatest all-rounders to have represented the country, played 26 Tests, 198 ODIs and 14 T20Is for Australia and was a two-time World Cup winner.

“Preliminary information indicated that the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road near Ellis River Bridge after 11 p.m.,” a police statement said. Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.”

According to a NewsCorp report, Symonds’ family “issued a statement confirming his passing, and appreciated the sympathy and well wishes of the people, and asked that his privacy be respected”.

In another tragic blow to Australian cricket, Andrew Symonds has died in a car accident at the age of 46.

The former Australian all-rounder was found murdered around 50 kilometers outside Townsville on Saturday night.

A statement from Queensland Police said Symonds was in a car accident at around 10.30 pm.

Police say Symonds was driving on Hervey Range Road near the Ellis River Bridge when his car veered off the road and rolled over.

Paramedics arrived at the scene, but could not revive the former Australian fan, who was the only person in the car.

Symonds was a member of Australia’s World Cup winning teams in 2003 and 2007 and appeared in 198 One Day Internationals in addition to 26 Tests from 2004 to 2008. Known for his flamboyant middle-order batting performance, he was a skilled all-rounder who could bowl both off-spin and medium pace.
