Backup fantasy

If Kamra cannot play, his direct backup is currently Mark Ingram, who is also suffering from an injury. Ingram was listed with an ankle injury on Wednesday and Thursday and was rehearsing on Friday. Dwayne Washington and Tony Jones Jr. are behind Ingram. They will see some work as the team tries to run on the Buccaneers.

The team signed former Saints running back Latvian Murray to the practice squad this week, but has not been upgraded for this week’s matchup. Murray was with the team in 2019 and 2020 and played a total of 31 games, including 1,293 yards for 292 runs and nine touchdown attempts on the ground.

Suspension

Alvin Kamara is likely to be suspended during the 2023 season as opposed to the upcoming 2022 campaign this fall – according to podcast host Michael Balko.

Kamara was arrested last February on felony charges stemming from an incident at a Las Vegas casino during Pro Bowl weekend. The incident saw the Saints RB and Kansas City Chiefs Chris Lammons, along with a group of two other unidentified suspects, knock a man unconscious and hit him in the stomach while on the ground.

The victim reportedly suffered an orbital fracture during the attack, and surveillance video from inside the club later confirmed his memory of the events. Las Vegas police interviewed Kamara inside Allegiant Stadium after the Pro Bowl, and would later be booked for battery.

Is Injured

The 27-year-old is battling a rib injury, which limited him in practice on Wednesday and ruled him out of Thursday and Friday’s sessions. He was initially listed as a suspect for this NFC South matchup. Specifically, NFL Network notes that Kamara is dealing with a rib cartilage problem.

With Kamara inactive for Sunday’s matchup, veteran Mark Ingram will be slated for additional work. Despite being listed as a suspect for this matchup, Ingram is set to play after being confined for a full week with an ankle injury. Kamara played 62% of New Orleans’ offensive snaps in the Week 1 opener and lengthened 39 rushing yards in nine attempts, while catching three of his four goals for just seven yards. Meanwhile, Ingram ran for 22 yards on four carries.
