University of Virginia (UVA) swimmer Kate Douglas has won a gold medal for the Women’s USA Swimming Olympic Team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On Thursday, August 1, 22-year-old UVA swimmer Kate Douglas won a gold medal for the USA Swimming Olympic Team by winning first place in the women’s 200-meter breaststroke.

Kate Douglas of Team United States celebrates after winning gold in the women’s 200 meter breaststroke final on day six of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at the Paris La Defense Arena on August 01, 2024 in Nanterre, France.

Douglas finished the race with a time of two minutes and 19 seconds, just 36 milliseconds faster than second-place winner Tatjana Smith, representing South Africa.

College

In May, Douglas graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in statistics. Next, he began studying for a master’s degree in statistics at Virginia, researching data analytics in competitive swimming with Ken Ono.

Boyfriend

Kate Douglas is currently engaged to Jared Reiman. Kate and Jared have reportedly been together since 2023, as their first image was dated September 25, 2023.

Not much information is known about Kate Douglas’s boyfriend Jared Rayman. He was born in 1991 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. He was a student at Pace Academy during his high school days.

Swimsuit

Team Silver needed a golden girl, and here Kate the Great Douglas came to the rescue.

Tough in temperament, tough in toughness, impeccable in technique, Douglas was the hero America wanted and needed in the pool at these Paris Olympics. Her long gliding breaststroke is so graceful that it looks effortless and can sometimes even feel like it – “It’s like relaxing sometimes,” she said – but winning the 200-meter breaststroke on Thursday was hardly easy.

Douglas apparently got into an alley-oop fight with South African Tatjana Smith, the defending gold medalist in the event and winner of the 100 breast earlier this week. She went on to win by .36 seconds, breaking her own American record and giving Team USA a jolt of adrenaline.

It has traditionally been a tough spot for dominant American swimmers to reach the top step of the medal podium in Paris, with only three gold medals in the first five days of swimming competition. A handful of silvers (10 of them are currently in swimming) is a nice accomplishment, but America is accustomed to doing a little better than good. The bar has been set too high by previous generations.
