Phillips was born on May 28, 1999, in Redlands, California, and attended Redlands East Valley High School, where he finished with 264 tackles, 31.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three interceptions.[1] Class of 2017 Considered the top high-school football prospect, he received more than 20 scholarship offers before committing to UCLA.

What happened to

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaylen Phillips left Friday’s 34-13 win over the New York Jets with an Achilles injury and did not return, casting a dark cloud over an impressive performance by the Dolphins defense.

The Dolphins are closing in on their eighth win of the season, but they may have lost one of their key longtime defensive players.

Edge rusher Jalen Phillips fell to the ground without contact during the play in the fourth quarter. Phillips took a step out of his stance and then went down with all the symptoms of an Achilles injury. After some time he was thrown out of the field.

Phillips had four tackles, a sack, two quarterback hits and three tackles for loss on Friday.

The field at MetLife Stadium has long been the subject of criticism from NFL players and it seems the nature of Phillips’ injury will lead to another round of it.

The Dolphins lead 27–6 with over nine minutes remaining in the game.

Jaelan Everett Phillips (born May 28, 1999) is an American football linebacker for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL).

The 24-year-old Phillips suffered a non-contact injury early in the fourth quarter.

The 2021 first-round pick was in obvious pain as he was carted off.

Phillips had one of his best games of the season, recording four tackles, a sack and a tipped pass, harassing Jets starter Tim Boyle throughout the afternoon.

He had 5.5 sacks entering Friday’s game and is on pace to set a career high – surpassing the 8.5 he recorded as a rookie in 2021. He also totaled 29 tackles and one interception.

Since joining the Dolphins, Phillips has become a key cog in Miami’s pass rush unit alongside Bradley Chubb, Christian Wilkins and Andrew Van Ginkel.

And despite numerous injury problems in college, Phillips has managed to stay healthy in the professional ranks, playing all 17 games in his first two seasons.

While in college, Phillips had to medically retire after his first two seasons at UCLA due to multiple concussions and other injuries. He eventually recovered and transferred to the University of Miami before being selected in the first round.

He will be a huge absence for Miami for a long time.

The Miami Dolphins made a massive trade at the deadline, giving up a 2023 first-round pick to acquire Denver Broncos edge defender Bradley Chubb. He had a good performance in his first two games with the team, totaling six pressures and one sack, while giving Miami three dynamic edge rushers: Chubb, Melvin Ingram III and Jalen Phillips. Ingram was stellar in Week 10, totaling seven pressures and two sacks, and Chubb also added in a sack.

But the real story of the contest was Phillips – and not because he filled up the stat sheet.

He recorded three pressures en route to an 82.0 overall grade – including a sack and a quarterback hit, the second-highest mark on defense among players with at least 10 snaps. While these numbers certainly aren’t shocking, the second-year Miami Hurricanes product has continued to be one of the league’s most dominant edge rushers this season.
