As per ESPN reports, Aaron Rodgers is expected to wear No. 8 while playing for the Jets. Despite having the option to wear No. 12, which was retired in honor of former Jets quarterback Joe Namath, Rodgers chose not to do so. Namath had earlier given Rodgers his blessing to wear the number, saying during a radio appearance in January that he wanted Rodgers to wear it. Rodgers, however, did not commit to the idea when asked in March on “The Pat McAfee Show,” and ultimately decided to keep Namath’s No. 12 retired at MetLife Stadium. The decision was made after several weeks of negotiations between the Packers and the Jets.

Press conference

Aaron Rodgers has arrived at the Jets’ practice facility in Florham Park and will be introduced as the team’s new quarterback at a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. He was seen wearing a Jets sweatshirt after arriving in New Jersey on Tuesday night.

When asked about not wanting to wear Joe Namath’s retired No. 12 jersey, Rodgers showed respect for the past and Namath himself. Namath was touched by the gesture and praised Rodgers, saying he has always liked him and has not seen anyone play better over the last decade or so.

Brett Favre, who has personal experience with second acts in New York, believes that Aaron Rodgers will excel with the Jets after being traded from the Packers in a blockbuster move. In an interview with ESPN, Favre praised Rodgers as a very smart and instinctive person, both on and off the field, and predicted that he will make everyone around him better. Despite serving as Favre’s backup for three seasons in Green Bay, Rodgers has spent his entire career there until the recent trade. While Favre initially retired in 2008, he later changed his mind and was traded to the Jets that same year.

Goodbye

With Aaron Rodgers officially leaving the Packers to join the Jets, the superstar quarterback addressed his departure from Green Bay publicly for the first time since the trade.

Rodgers took to Instagram to say goodbye to the Packers organization, Green Bay fans and everyone whom he encountered during his 18 seasons with the team. The quarterback has only played for the Packers since they drafted him in the first round in 2005.

“I’m not sure it’s possible to fully express the gratitude that I have to the Packers, our incredible fans, the state of Wisconsin, the thousands of players that I crossed paths with, the incredible men and women who work for the organization, and the amazing people who I got to meet along the way, in one post with 10 pictures, but I hope you read this and feel my heart and soul, filled with love, joy, and peace about my time in green and gold,” he wrote in the post.

Rodgers included a photo montage from his time in Green Bay, including winning the Super Bowl in February 2011. Throughout the post, Rodgers thanked myriad people that have been in the Packers organization since he was drafted.
