Lewan, a three-time Pro Bowler, initially announced his release on Twitter. The team later confirmed the offensive lineman’s release along with three of his former teammates, including labeling Cunningham’s release with a failed physical designation.
NFL Network Insider Tom Pellicero reported that by cutting all four players, the Titans were able to take nearly $38 million in salary-cap space and $42.2 million in cash off the books for 2023.
PFF grade
As it currently stands, the Titans are overdrafted by about $21 million, so the front office will be looking for ways to save money. This means partnering with players with high contracts.
To no one’s surprise, left tackle Taylor LeVon is pegged as a potential cap casualty by Pro Football Focus’ Brad Spielberger:
Salary Cap Details: $0 dead money, $14,841,000 cap savings
Lewan himself has publicly shared speculation that the Titans will move on from the 2014 first-round pick who tore his ACL for the second time in Week 2 of this season. Levan may eventually retire as well.
Landing spots
Tennesse Titans cut 3-time Pro Bowler Taylor Lewan: The 4th logical landing spot in NFL free agency.
Taylor LeVon is sure to be one of the most sought-after players in 2023 NFL free agency after the three-time Pro Bowler was handed a walking paper today by the Tennessee Titans.
On Wednesday, Taylor Lewan revealed on his “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast that the only team he has played for during his nine seasons in the NFL, the Tennessee Titans, was releasing him from the final year of his contract.
Salary
Lewan’s base salary is $9.8 million and his signing bonus is $10.5 million. His total cap hit for the 2021 season is $16.2 million.
