Controversy

Ty Gibbs and controversy have gone hand in hand during the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and it appears that it will remain so until the end.

Gibbs became the third driver to lock a spot in Championship 4 at Phoenix Raceway, doing so on points during the Round of 8 finale at Martinsville Speedway.

JR Motorsports teammates Josh Berry and Noah Gregson had already made the final round by winning the first two races of Round 8.

But with teammate Brandon Jones finishing fourth and last, Gibbs wrecked it on the last lap to win the race. Instead, JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgeier closed that spot on points.

Needless to say, the move — and his ensuing comments — ignited a firestorm, causing many fans to want to see one of three things happen in this coming Saturday’s season finale.

Gibbs is survived by his wife Heather as well as four children, including 20-year-old son Ty, who won the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship Saturday night. Gibbs did not race in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series season finale, where he was originally supposed to start 10th for 23XI Racing as the driver of the No. 23 Toyota. A pre-race silence was held in honor of his father.

Prior to Gibbs’ death was his brother JD, who passed away in 2019 after battling a neurological condition for several years.

Net Worth

Ty Gibbs net worth is estimated to be around $4 million. His main source of income is from his career as a professional stock car racing driver. Gibbs’ successful career has earned him some lavish lifestyles and some fancy car trips. He is one of the richest and influential stock racing drivers in the United States.

Cup Series

Ty Gibbs, 20, won the Xfinity title by defeating three drivers from JR Motorsports in a winner-take-all championship race. Gibbs’ title came a week after teammate Brandon Jones crashed to victory in Martinsville and his father’s death is an incredibly sad end to a turbulent week that should have ultimately been the highlight of his career.

Tye was showered with booze after dumping his teammate in Martinsville. Had Jones won the race, JGR would have two of the four drivers racing for the championship on Saturday. Instead, Gibbs was the team’s only title contender and spent the week apologizing for his actions after initially appearing unapproachable in the moments after hitting Jones.

Ty is widely expected to acquire the No. 18 car at JGR in 2023 to replace Kyle Busch. Gibbs has 11 wins in 51 Xfinity Series starts and 33 top-10 finishes.
