“I knew it wasn’t just something minor. It was an episode big enough that I knew I needed to go to the hospital.
“But I think a lot of people will just think, This would be perfect. Don’t do it, for heaven’s sake.
“Thirty minutes later I felt fine, but my blood work showed that I had a mild heart attack.
“A lot of people will ignore those symptoms. Don’t do that, you have to get on top of it.”
While he doesn’t look back and notice any warning signs that were overlooked, Woodbridge admits he overlooked his family history of high cholesterol.
“When I was going through all my tests, one thing that really stood out is that I had really high cholesterol,” he said.
“I knew I’d have that, but I didn’t do anything about it over the years.
“That’s what a lot of people are doing, they’re putting it off, thinking they’ll be right.

Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne died in Thailand in March this year following a heart attack. Warne is still regarded as one of the best leg spinners of all time as he set several records throughout his career. He became the first bowler to reach 700 wickets in a test match.
AFL Premiership player Dean Wallis also underwent surgery after suffering a heart attack at the age of 52 this year, while former Australian cricket coach Darren Lehmann also survived a heart attack during his 50th birthday in 2020.
“I have now entered the age where I need to make sure I have regular tests, visit doctors,” Woodbridge said. “I’ve been lucky that I took all the tests and I’m fine. With good monitoring and a little bit of light medication going on, I’ll be fine.
“But what I learned was how important hereditary genes are to your health and I know that both my mom and dad had some problems with needing some stents and that my dad had too much cholesterol. If you take care, I have the potential to recover in the future. But if you don’t take care of it, you are putting yourself at risk.”
