Injury update
The beloved Athletics catcher returned to Oakland on a one-year contract this season and has provided a much-needed veteran appearance at the clubhouse. But on April 21, the catcher was placed on a 10-day injury list with a right knee sprain.
Even though he returns to baseball activity this week, as first reported by MLB.com’s Martin Gallegos, it may be some time before Vogt A sees the field again.
Still, he’s making the most of his time on IL and shares what he’s learned from watching the game with Glenn Kuiper and Dallas Braden of NBC Sports Calif.
Splits

The Milwaukee Brewers announced Sunday that they have claimed exemption to former Oakland Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt.
The 32-year-old Vogt has been hitting .217 this season with four home runs and 20 RBIs. According to ESPN.com’s Jerry Krasnick, the Athletics named him for the assignment on Thursday.
As Krasnick put it: “[Vogt] was an American League All-Star in 2015 and 2016 and a fan favorite in Oakland, but this year he became expendable when the A decided to give 26-year-old Bruce Maxwell , who was most of the players in the team- bat on catcher.”
While Vogt provided the pop in the lineup for the Athletics, hitting a combined 32 homers and 127 RBIs in his All-Star season, he was also a liability defensively, according to Susan Slusser against him against opposing Bessner. Could successfully steal 25 times straight. San Francisco Chronicle.
