Fangraphs
As a Diamondbacks fan, it’s all too easy to be biased in evaluating Didi Gregorius’s low playing ability. I’m not a scout in any sense of the word, but if I had to rate him, I’d say he’s at least average defensive, with some sparkle sprinkled in – I might call him above average. It looks like he has a good first move, good range, and an awesome (seriously) hand. Also, everyone in the organization raves about her defense, but I guess that’s to be expected.
However, a look at his Fangraphs page shows that he is playing -4.2 UZR and -2 DRS so far this year, but above average. And it’s not just 2014, because last year too the fangraph didn’t like her very much.
If you search for his name on MLB.com’s videos page, it doesn’t take long to find his videos, such as this one, or this one, or this one. Obviously, you can’t really evaluate the potential of a shortstop based on the number of lucrative plays he’s made, but those are certainly plays that get posted on MLB.com.
Have any of you guys seen him play a lot? I would love some insight on this, as it is really leaving me scratching my head.
Daughter
Took a paternity lawsuit to step up to the plate as a father figure for former Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius.
Gregorius, 31, was sued in November 2019 by a Florida woman who said she was the mother of his child. The Daily News has learned that the woman, Nicole Regan, sought sole custody and child support from the millionaire athlete.
At that time their daughter was 5 months old. The lawsuit, which has not been reported, was filed in Hillsborough County, where the Yankees conduct spring training in Tampa.
“The father is a prominent professional baseball player and travels extensively throughout the year,” Regan and his lawyers wrote in the suit. “His presence in the minor child’s life has been the most limited and often cannot be reached in time with respect to determining major decisions affecting the minor child’s life.”
