Speaking on Twitter today, he said: “Today I am announcing my retirement from playing professional football.

“It has been an incredible journey filled with so many incredible moments and I am proud to have experienced everything I have done during my career. From little boy kicking a ball in the garden to my beloved Till captaining Arsenal and playing for my country. In a World Cup. I have lived my dream.”

Current club

After a brief hiatus in the Luton Town youth programme, Wilshire joined Arsenal Academy in October 2001 at the age of nine. He rose through the ranks, and at age 15 he was named captain of the under-16s; He also made some appearances for the under-18s.
