Williamson, who was born in Salisbury, North Carolina, moved with his family to Marion, where his mother, Sharonda Sampson, coached him at Johnakin Middle School. The team lost only three games in two seasons and Williamson averaged 20 points.

Injury Update:

Without seeing Williamson’s medical info and having the expertise to evaluate it, it’s impossible to say which side is right.

But if Williamson wanted to play sooner, he could have rehabbed more diligently. Or he can keep not trusting the Pelicans then eventually leave New Orleans.

Maybe this disconnect, like other issues, will be solved with Williamson getting healthy. The Pelicans’ long-term approach might pay off.

Is Injured:

The Pelicans said Zion Williamson – who has missed the whole season with a foot injury – wouldn’t play in their first-round series against the Suns.

Williamson keeps throwing down highlight dunks where everyone can see them – on Instagram, during pre-play-in-game warmups.

Given their obvious incentives to get their franchise player on the court as quickly as possible, they deserve some benefit of the doubt. The latter’s victory over the Clippers did not hold much weight as the LA team was without their superstars. Despite that, the Pelicans came back from a 10-point deficit in the third quarter to come back and win convincingly.
