Contract

Port Adelaide’s reigning club champion Jack Butters has signed a contract extension to remain at the AFL club until the end of 2026.

Butters, who finished fourth in last season’s Brownlow Medal, was contracted until the end of next year.

But the dynamic on-baller has penned a new two-year deal to join the Power until the end of 2026.

“I’m excited…it was an easy decision,” Butters said Monday.

“I have a lot of confidence in where our young group is going and I’m settled in Adelaide, so in the end it was a pretty straightforward decision.

“This club gave me the opportunity to play the game I love at the highest level and I want to repay their trust.

“I’ve made great friendships within the playing group and I’m very close to (coach) Ken (Hinkley) and the coaching group.”

Career Earnings

After a nervous few weeks answering various match review charges, the Port Adelaide superstar is on course to become the most fined player in the competition’s history.

It’s clearly a record Butters will be reluctant to break, having already been fined an incredible $29,375 and given a two-match ban during his relatively short AFL career so far.

Butters, still only 23, has been charged 15 times in his first 107 appearances. 13 of them were fined about 30-grand, one was suspended, and another was thrown to an AFL tribunal.
