Farid Yu Darwishfat (Darubishu Seifato Farodo Yu, born August 16, 1986), commonly known as Yu Darvish, is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). Darvas has also played in MLB for the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs, and in Nippon Professional Baseball for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. His full name is Farid Yu Darwishfat, and he recreates baseball for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). In addition, Darvas has played in Major League Baseball for the Texas Rangers, Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers. As a participant of the Japanese federal contingent that competes internationally, Dervish participated in the 2009 World Baseball Classic and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Before making it to Major League Baseball in 2012, many thought he was the most talented pitcher in Japanese professional baseball. The following year, he led the Major League in strikeouts (and finished fourth in the AL in earned run average, placing him second in voting for the AL Cy Young Award. In addition, Dervish was the first starting pitcher to strike in MLB history. 500 batsmen pitched on 6 April 2014 in fewer innings.

Yu Darvish was born on 16 August 1986 in Habikino, Japan.His full name is Farid Yu Darwishfat. His birth name is Farid U Darwishfat. His father, Farsad Darweshfat, is an Iranian. His mother, Ikuyo, is Japanese. According to Japanese law, citizens must choose a singular nationality before the age of 22. Darvas chose the Japanese, partly so he could play for Japan in the World Baseball Classic.
His parents met at Eckard College, a liberal arts school in St. Petersburg, Fla., where Farsad played football. After moving back to Japan, Farsad reportedly encouraged his son to play football. Yu preferred baseball, which he began playing competitively in the second grade.
By the time he was in junior high, Scouts were watching Dervish. In high school, he threw a no-hitter during Japan’s highly regarded Koshin High School Tournament.

Dervish was born in Habikino, Osaka, to Farid Yu Darwishsefat, a Japanese mother, Ikuyo, and an Iranian father, Farsad Darwishfat. His father played for the Florida State University football team. His grandfather owned a travel agency in Iran and sent his son Farsad to the United States in 1977 to attend Berkshire School in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, where he played football and raced competitively in motocross.
Darvas began playing baseball in the second grade and led his team to the quarterfinals of national tournaments as well as third in international tournaments as a member of the Habikino Boys. He was scouted by over 50 high schools while in junior high. He opted to attend Tohoku High School in northern Sendai, a baseball powerhouse that drew players such as former Seattle Mariners and Yokohama Baystars closer to Kazuhiro Sasaki and former Bestars and Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Takashi Saito.
