World Series Game 3: National anthem| Score| Cancelled
The Philadelphia Phillies took a 2-1 series lead in the World Series on Tuesday night with a 7-0 win over the Houston Astros.
After the Astros started early in Games 1 and 2, thanks to home runs by Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh, the Phillies returned the favor in Game 3, jumping to a 4–0 lead after two innings. Gone. Kyle Schwarber and Rhys Hoskins added dingers of their own in fifth to extend the Phillies’ lead even further.
National anthem
Houston tasked Black Pumas singer Eric Burton to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” before Friday’s Game 1 at Minute Maid Park, and while his vocals were at times strong, his memoir of the song left much to be desired. Something was left.
Burton, 33, made several mistakes while playing the anthem, including the song “What So Proudly We Cheer in the Last Streaming of Twilight”, not once but twice. to keep track:
The crowd was largely forgiving of Burton, earning him a huge applause after his rendition. Perhaps the band’s Texas roots came to its advantage.
Burton isn’t new to performing with the world watching, so nerves won’t be a problem. His band, the Black Pumas, has performed at the Grammy Awards, President Joe Biden’s inauguration, the NFL Draft, “Today,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “The Late Late Show” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
Score
Game 3 was worth the wait for the Philadelphia Phillies. After being forced to postpone Game 3 to Monday due to rain, the Phillies and the Houston Astros were able to continue with the World Series at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night, and the Phillies won 7–0 (box score). Scored five home runs. They lead 2-1 in the best-of-seven series. A championship is two wins away for Philadelphia.
Remarkably, the Phillies did not bat with a runner-up until the sixth inning, when they had already taken a 7–0 lead. Bryce Harper opened the scoring with a homer of the first two runs, and the Phillies continued to pile on from there against Lance McCullers Jr. The Phillies are a perfect 6-0 at home after this season.
Cancelled
The Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies will have to wait another day for the 2022 World Series to resume. Game 3 of the Fall Classic has been postponed due to rain, MLB announced on Monday evening, about an hour before the first pitch. Instead it will be played on Tuesday (live update here), and the rest of the series will be pushed back a day. There will still be an off-day for travel between Thursday’s Game 5 and, if necessary, Friday’s Game 6.
Here is the updated 2022 World Series schedule:
Monday, October 31: Postponed
Tues, Nov 1: Game 3 at 8:03 p.m. ET in Philadelphia
Weds, Nov 2: Game 4 at 8:03 p.m. ET in Philadelphia
Thu, November 3: Game 5 at 8:03 pm. ET in Philadelphia
Fri., Nov 4: Holiday
Saturday, November 5: Game 6 p.m. 8:03 p.m. ET in Houston (if needed)
Sun., Nov. 6: Game 7 at 8:03 p.m. ET in Houston (if needed)
Monday’s postponement is the first in the Fall Classic since Game 6 of the 2011 World Series.
Light rain started at Citizens Bank Park around 6 pm. ET and will increase in intensity around 9 PM. ET, and continues through Tuesday morning. Current circumstances suggest that the Astros and Phillies can start Game 3 as scheduled, but once the rain intensifies into the night, they will have to pause and the game will be postponed. The MLB makes all decisions related to the season after season and the league prefers to play an uninterrupted nine innings whenever possible.
