The Walter Peyton NFL Man of the Year Award is presented annually by the National Football League (NFL) to honor a player’s volunteer and charity work, as well as his excellence on the field. Prior to 1999, it was simply called the NFL Man of the Year Award. Walter Peyton died (himself being the 1977 recipient) shortly after the Chicago Bears walked back, the prize was renamed to honor his legacy as a humanitarian.

Who won the 2022
The NFL recognized the performances of its top players and the 56 NFL season at the 11th Annual NFL Honors ceremony Thursday night ahead of Super Bowl 2021.
The ceremony, hosted by comedian Keegan-Michael Key, included a presentation of the NFL’s most sought-after awards. Including Walter Peyton Man of the Year and Most Valuable Player.
The MVP was of particular interest this year, as the two experienced quarterbacks were at the fore. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers won his fourth MVP and became the first back-to-back winners of the award since Peyton Manning in 2008 and 2009.
Winners
The Walter Peyton NFL Man of the Year Award recognizes an NFL player for his excellence on and off the field. This award was established in 1970. In 1999 it was renamed after the late Hall of Fame Chicago Bears, Walter Peyton. Each team nominates a player who has had a significant positive impact on its community.
Representing the best of the NFL’s commitment to philanthropy and community impact, 32 players are selected as their team’s Man of the Year and go on to win a national award.
The winner of the prize receives $250,000 each year donated to the charity of the winner’s choice. All other 31 nominees receive donations of up to $40,000 to the charity of their choice. All donations are courtesy of the NFL Foundation and Nationwide.
College
The award was named in honor of the late National Football League (NFL) legend Walter Peyton, who played at Jackson State University in the early 1970s.[2]
Of the many schools in the division, only nine have claimed more than one award, and only seven have won the award to more than one player. Four players have won the award in Eastern Washington, Villanova has won three players, and five have won two players: Colgate, Georgia Southern, Idaho, New Hampshire and Eastern Illinois. Two players have won the award twice, being the only players from their institutions to win both. In 2009, Armani Edwards of Appalachian State became the first person to receive the award twice, [3] followed in 2017 by Jeremiah Briscoe of Sam Houston State. [4] In 2019, North Dakota was the first new person to receive the state’s Trey Lance award.[5]
The most recent winner of the award is Eric Barrier, an Eastern Washington quarterback who earned the honor during the 2021 season.
