Injury
The team announced that Tarasenko was out with a lower-body injury. At least by the “lower-body designation, it means Tarasenko has not sustained any additional damage to his left shoulder – which has undergone three separate surgeries.
Tarasenko played 14 minutes 5 seconds Wednesday, a little less than usual but was on the ice in the final minute of play. So it’s not known when the injury occurred.
Trade
St. Louis Blues’ superstar winger Vladimir Tarasenko has requested a trade after losing trust in the organization, according to The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford.
Issues with the team reportedly arose from two shoulder surgeries performed by team physicians that still left the 29-year-old Russian ailing. A third surgery in 2020 performed by a doctor not affiliated with the Blues discovered ligament damage from Tarasenko’s initial injury in 2018 wasn’t corrected in either of the previous two operations.
Fantasy
Vladimir Tarasenko will have surgery on Tuesday to replace a damaged shoulder. He has been placed on long-term IR and will be reevaluated in five months. This comes after Tarasenko had already had shoulder surgery in April 2018, followed by knee surgery this off-season.
This is a devastating injury for all involved. Tarasenko has reached at least 66 points in all five seasons he has played in at least 65 regular-season games. He remains a very good player in longer-term leagues if you have the bench space.
Wife
Tarasenko married his wife, Yana, on July 1, 2015. The couple have three children: Mark, Aleksandr (born May 17, 2016), and Artem (born June 6, 2019). Mark is his stepson. During the season, the family resided in Creve Coeur, Missouri before selling the home in 2020 and moving into St. Louis.
Return Date
St. Louis Blues right wing Vladimir Tarasenko (lower body) is set to be welcomed back into the lineup for Monday’s home game against Anaheim. The Russian sniper has missed two games. Tarasenko is still working his way back into form after missing a large chunk of the season due to an offseason shoulder surgery.
He has managed four goals and 14 points so far in 23 games with 65 shots and a minus-seven rating. The Blues also hope to get Vince Dunn (upper body) back at some point this week, but Torey Krug (upper body) remains sidelined. Jordan Binnington, who has won three of his past four starts, guards the crease on Monday.
