His parents rejected offers from big clubs like FC Barcelona and ASVEL. In February 2018, Vembanyama was loaned to FC Barcelona for the Minicopa del Rey, an under-14 tournament in Spain, with his team finishing third. He recorded 16 points and 15 rebounds in the third-place game.
