World Superbikes said Dutch World Supersport 300 motorcycle rider Victor Steimann died of injuries sustained in a crash in Portugal over the weekend.

The 22-year-old Kawasaki racer crashed with another rider on Saturday’s race at the Algarve circuit and was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Faro.

Viktor Steiman has died at the age of 22 after suffering injuries sustained in a crash during the Supersport 300 World Championship race in Portimao on Saturday 8 October.

The Dutchman was involved in a multiple-rider incident at the age of 14, which led to the race being immediately red flagged. Steiman was attended by medical personnel on the circuit and at the medical center before being airlifted to Faroe Hospital.

Steiman had multiple injuries to his body as well as a head injury, and was in critical condition. Sadly, his death was confirmed on the evening of Tuesday 11 October. A statement from his family said:

“As the parent of a motorcycle racer you have always been afraid of, something has happened. Our Victor could not win this last race. Despite the unbearable loss and sadness, we are extremely proud to share this with you. That our hero was able to save 5 other people by donating his organs.

“We would like to thank all of you for the way you have been with us over the past few days. We will miss our Victor very much.”

Entering the Portuguese round, Steimann had a mathematical chance of winning the Supersport 300 title. He achieved four victories (Essen, Most, Magny-Cours and Barcelona), a total of five podiums and three pole positions for the MTM Kawasaki team.

The MTM Kawasaki rider was involved in an incident in Race 1 of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship during the Pirelli Portuguese round at the weekend.

The multi-rider accident immediately red-flagged the race. Steiman was taken to Trackside and Circuit Medical Center before being taken to Faroe Hospital.

Steiman has now tragically died.

A statement from their family read: “As the parent of a motorcycle racer you have always been afraid of, now that’s what happened.

“Our victor could not win this final race. Despite the unbearable loss and grief, we are extremely proud to share with you that our hero, through his passing, helped save 5 others by donating his organs. were capable.

“We would like to thank everyone for the way you have been with us over the past few days. We will miss our Victor very much.”

Following a serious incident in Race 1 of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship during the Pirelli Portuguese round at the Autodromo International do Algarve, it is with great sadness that we report the passing of rider Victor Steiman (MTM Kawasaki).

Victor Steiman was involved in a multiple-rider incident at Turn 14, in which the race was immediately red flagged. Medical personnel and vehicles immediately arrived at the scene and the rider was attended to by helicopter at the side of the track and at the Circuit Medical Center before being transferred to Faroe Hospital.

Despite the best efforts of the circuit’s medical staff, marshals and hospital staff, Steiman tragically died.
