The Vendee Globe is a single-handed non-stop round for the world boat race. The race was founded by Philippe Jeantot in 1989 and has been held every four years since 1992. It is named after Wendy’s Depayment in France, where the race begins and ends.

Only one of the nine pioneers who set sail in 1968 returned to Falmouth on 31 April, 6 April 1969 at sea.
In this way Sir Robin Knox-Johnston became the first person to sail solo around the world without stopping. In 1989, the race, now called the vendee Globe, was run.
You can watch the start of the vendee Globe 2020-21 live on the Olympic Channel on Sunday 8 November, with the fleet set to depart at 12:02 GMT.
The Olympic Channel will stream weekly highlights of the race as well as live coverage of the finishes at Les Sable D’Alon, the first of which the boats were expected to return in mid-January.

Time record: Armel Le Cleac’h – 74 days, 3 hours and 35 min 46s.
A record 33 boats will set out on a difficult and at times dangerous voyage, preventing accidents, taking between 70 and 130 days and covering a total distance of 45,000 km (28,000 miles).
