Highlights
The Los Angeles Rams have reportedly executed a trade agreement with the Atlanta Falcons, sending wide receiver Van Jefferson to the Falcons along with a seventh-round draft pick in 2025 in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the same draft. Multiple sources confirmed the transaction on Tuesday.
Van Jefferson was selected by the Rams as the 57th overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, and the following season, he managed to secure a starting spot for all 17 games. However, in the current season, Jefferson found himself playing a less prominent role due to the impressive performance of rookie standout Puka Nakua.
The emergence of Tutu Atwell and the return of All-Pro Cooper Kupp from injury further reduced Jefferson’s playing time with the Rams.
Fantasy
Jefferson became the odd man out with the return of Cooper Kupp, the emergence of Puka Nakua and good performances from Tutu Atwell. The 27-year-old has 15 receptions for 108 yards in 2023. He’ll join Drake London and Mack Hollins in the Falcons receiving corps, though chances are good his usage will be limited. He can be released on exemption for now.
Trade
The Atlanta Falcons traded for receiver Van Jefferson from the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday.
As part of the deal, the Falcons sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Rams for a seventh-round selection that same year.
In his fourth season out of Florida, Jefferson had eight catches for 108 yards and no touchdowns.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound receiver has played in 49 games for Los Angeles, making 30 starts. His best year came in 2021, when the Rams made their Super Bowl run. He started every game that season and had career highs in targets (89), catches (50), yards (802) and touchdowns (six).
The 27-year-old Jefferson has struggled to earn a significant role this season due to the emergence of rookie star Puka Nakua and third-year receiver Tutu Atwell. He was on the field for only two offensive plays during the Rams’ 23-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, as Los Angeles’ receiving corps was bolstered by the return of All-Pro Cooper Kupp from injured reserve.
Wife
His wife name is Samaria Jefferson. Jefferson is the son of NFL coach and former wide receiver Shawn Jefferson. Jefferson has a daughter and two sons. Their second son was born on February 13, 2022, after Jefferson’s wife, Samaria Jefferson, went into labor during Super Bowl LVI.
