Australian Grand Prix boss Andrew Westcott has dismissed a report that the Formula One race could end in Sydney, saying Melbourne wants to keep it after his contract expires in 2025.
Australian broadcaster Seven Network said the New South Wales state government was in “high-level talks” about a possible bid to snatch the race from Melbourne, without naming sources.
Organizers were forced to cancel the 2020 and 2021 races in Melbourne due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Westcott said the report was a surprise to him but organizers would struggle to keep the race in Australia’s second largest city.
“It’s a highly sought-after event, but as far as I’m concerned, the Australian Grand Prix isn’t going anywhere,” he told Australian broadcaster Nine Network on Friday.
“We have a strong relationship with Formula One, built on a quarter century of trust.”
Mercedes
Learning his craft on the Finnish roads of snow and ice, he was born to become a Grand Prix racer.
Bottas explains that if you can drive on the frozen roads of his homeland, you can drive anywhere. Then there’s the Finnish mentality—the reserved, hardworking and calm F1’s fast alleys don’t distract him.
Making his F1 debut with Williams in 2013, Bottas soon became part of the family. After points and podiums, the credible racer scored the most points without a win, a record he contested but that showed his potential. The fact that the Finn was such a points machine suddenly promoted him to the most coveted seat in F1 – Nico Rosberg’s vacant championship-winning seat at Mercedes.
Salary
F1 drivers’ salaries are huge, but that’s not the whole story. Contracts often include performance-based bonuses. This can be where a driver receives an amount based on winning a race, scoring a certain number of points, or finishing above a certain position.
An example of this would be Kimi Raikkonen’s return to Formula 1 in 2012. The Finn took a sabbatical from the game in 2009. When he returned, he raced with the Lotus F1 team under the same name in its first season.
It was a coup to nab the world champion upon his return to the sport, especially given that Raikkonen was negotiating a seat from Williams. So Lotus team owner Gerard López sweetened the deal, promising a €50,000 bonus for every World Championship point he scored during his two-year deal.
Points

Bottas, who led Hamilton in both Friday’s sessions, finished the day with the fastest time of 1:33.593 seconds, with the Briton just 0.044 seconds behind his teammate.
Boosted by Hamilton’s hopes of eventually securing a historic 100th victory and possibly regaining the championship lead, Red Bull opted to fit title rival and championship leader Verstappen’s car with a new engine, which resulted in penalties. happened.
Ranking
Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas claimed his first checkered flag of the season to win the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday as Max Verstappen took the lead in the title race. Red Bull driver finished second to take a six-point lead in the championship ahead of Bottas’ teammate Lewis Hamilton, who sounded fifth with the team’s strategy. In the second Red Bull, Sergio Pérez took third with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in fourth. Although the rain subsided by the start of the race, wet conditions remained throughout, making strategy around the tires and pit timing all the more important.
Bottas started from pole, avoiding a tangle between Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso on the opening lap, and led until he stood on the 38th lap of the 58-lap race.
