Backstage, a fight erupted between rival camps, which White later confirmed began with Khamzat Chimaev and Kevin Holland – the “catalysts” – and spread to include other fighters.
“There were several things going on at once.”
“There was more than one thing that erupted,” he explained.
“It was a complete s***show once it all started erupting.”

On Friday evening, UFC 279 received a historic makeover.
Nate Diaz vs. Khamzat Chimaev will no longer take place after Chimaev failed to make weight by 7.5 pounds.
UFC president Dana White announced late Friday that Diaz will now face Tony Ferguson in the five-round main event.
Ferguson was originally scheduled to face Li Jingliang, which has resulted in major changes to the main card, which will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In addition to Diaz vs. Ferguson, White announced that Chimaev will now face Kevin Holland at 180 pounds, and Jingliang will face Daniel Rodriguez (who was originally scheduled to face Holland) at 180 pounds.
Fight backstage
the news conference going by introducing the six fighters in pairs, one for each fight.
White cancelled the event after Kevin Holland and Daniel Rodriguez spoke to reporters and fans in attendance about their fight on the pay-per-view card.
In a press conference following the cancellation, White stated that the skirmishes were started by Khamzat Chimaev and Holland, who are not fighting each other on Saturday night at UFC 279.
None of the fighters required medical attention, and none of the fights on the card are in jeopardy, according to White.
“It was a total s—-show,” White admitted.
For months, Chimaev and Holland have been arguing on social media and in interviews.

UFC 279 takes place this Saturday night from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with a fight card that was shuffled at the last second due to Khamzat Chimaev’s epic miss on the scales.
Chimaev vs. Nate Diaz was first, followed by Tony Ferguson vs. Li Jingliang and Kevin Holland vs. Daniel Rodriguez.
Chimaev vs. Holland, Diaz vs. Ferguson, and Li vs. Rodriguez are the only matches left.
They’re all bangers.
And the BE staff believes Diaz and Chimaev will both win tonight.
Only Stephie is backing Holland to derail Chimaev, with only me* picking Ferguson to upset Diaz’s UFC swansong.
The third shuffled fight has more divided opinion, with equal picks going to Li and Rodriguez.
