It’s a long time coming, and although some might say that the fight between Covington and Masvidal is probably a year or two too late, the grudge match is still one that should live up to expectations. The rivalry is well publicized, it’s real, it’s deep and – whether you want to admit it or not – you’ll get to tune in. Is Covington’s shtick corny by now? Sure, but at least he’s making an effort to sell the fight and as is some (or most) of his material, it’s enough to pique your interest. It also modifies Masvidal’s motor, which is why Covington is trying to create as much “chaos” as possible for fighting at night.

Post fight

Just because someone is stupid doesn’t mean they aren’t good at what they do. Colby Covington proved it once again, removing Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 to achieve his biggest scalp in terms of name value. This was an old Covington performance, using extreme pressure with punches and relentless takedown attempts. Masvidal had some bright moments, including a moment in the fourth where he knocked Covington to the knee for a brief moment. Unfortunately, Masvidal failed to capitalize on it and Covington had hurt him with a long punching combination in the first round, meaning it was not a given Masvidal, even in that round. Many would continue to question whether their feud was legitimate, but it was not a sparring session that former teammates and roommates went through.
