Ring girls:

Retired UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov recently spoke out on ring girls used in MMA and boxing fights, claiming he saw no use for them in the sport.

During a press conference, he said: “Look, I don’t want to offend anyone, ring girls are the most useless people in martial arts. What is their purpose?”

He then continued to explain how, when he used to watch Fight Night with his late father, he felt uncomfortable whenever the ring girls showed up on screen.

There is a history of UFC removing officials for incompetence in the middle of an event. UFC president Dana White famously removed a judge from a UFC Fight Night event in 2014 in Macau, China, after the judge turned in two odd scorecards. UFC later said White broke protocol in that incident, as that move has to come from internal regulators.

Kiselev was scheduled to oversee a light heavyweight bout between Volkan Oezdemir and Magomed Ankalaev later in the evening.

In a rare move, UFC removed a referee from its UFC 267 event Saturday, immediately following his performance in a preliminary welterweight bout.

The promotion pulled referee Vyacheslav Kiselev from the event after he declined to stop the welterweight bout between Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Benoit Saint-Denis. Zaleski dos Santos, of Brazil, hurt Saint-Denis with right hands in the second round and followed up with a long series of unanswered punches and knees.

The win completed an unlikely fairy tale story for Teixeira, who went on a five-fight winning streak to secure a second chance at the title after losing to then-champion Jon Jones in April 2014.

Teixeira continued to grind away for the next seven years, constantly mixing it up with the best in the division before Jones vacated the title to move to heavyweight and Blachowicz claimed the vacant title.

Teixeira came out aggressively in the fight, which took place at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, scoring an early takedown in Round 1 and keeping Blachowicz on the defensive for the entire first five minutes. The takedown didn’t come quite so easily in the second round and Blachowicz seemed to be getting on track when Teixeira landed a crushing left hand that hurt the champion.
